Generation Kill

I have been watching HBO's "Generation Kill" the past couple of weeks. It is the story of one Marine battalion making its way towards Baghdad at the beginning of the war, as seen through the eyes of embedded Rolling Stone reporter Evan Wright.

There are a series of good characters with a variety of perspectives and backgrounds; the script seems, to me, to capture realistically what their conversations would have actually been like.

A major theme is the incompetence/disconnect of the commanders/higher-ups from the experiences of the men actually doing the frontline work.

This is a depressing show. It makes me feel extremely removed from what has been going on in Iraq for the past six years, and it also makes me think that our country as a whole is too removed from thinking about the war and the experiences of the people (on all sides) who have actually been living it.

84. What other sorts of stories has Evan Wright written for Rolling Stone?

85. It sounds like the articles (initially) and HBO series (later) generated considerable controversy among the actually-depicted participants. Has anyone filed a defamation suit or otherwise responded publicly to Wright's portrayals?
