Keri Hilson, Kanye West and Ne-Yo

Last night I listened to (and watched videos of) a number of potential "songs of the summer" for 2009 on The Daily Beast. This was fun -- quite a variety of genres and styles, although most of the songs seemed fairly derivative or reminiscent of past stuff.

My favorite is Keri Hilson, Kanye West, and Ne-Yo's Knock You Down. This song is extremely fun, with a great video to boot. I've just read through the lyrics -- they are a bit nonsensical, but the rhyming is fantastic and the beat definitely moved me.

A sample:

Keep rockin' and keep knockin'
Whether you Louis Vuitton it up or Reebokin
You see the hate that they're servin' on a platter
So what we gon' have, dessert or disaster?

AND

We were never meant to be
Baby we just happen
So please don't mess up the trick
Hey young world I'm the new Slick Rick

The song is from Hilson's debut album, "In a Perfect World," which was released early in 2009. Hilson is from Georgia; prior to going solo she was a songwriter for Britney Spears and Ludacris among others.
