Lawsuit Objecting to Meadowcreek Parkway's Construction Across McIntire Park

A group called the Coalition to Save McIntire Park filed a motion, yesterday, requesting that the City of Charlottesville and VDOT be enjoined from proceeding with construction of the portion of the Meadowcreek Parkway that will cut across the park.

My understanding is that the Coalition is an offshoot of the local Sierra Club; John Cruickshank is being quoted in the articles about the injunction request. Jennifer McKeever is representing the Coalition.

Lots of comments/traffic on The Hook and C'Ville's message boards about the suit. It seems to be split relatively evenly between supporters and opponents of the Meadowcreek Parkway.

The legal issue is interesting: whether the Virginia Constitution requires a legislative three-quarters majority for the approval of any transfer of property (ie, in the case of the Parkway, the C'Ville Council's approval of an easement grant to build the road) or whether such a majority is required only with respect to sales of property.
