Today is the first full day of the college football season -- UVa plays William and Mary at 6 and Tech plays Alabama in Atlanta tonight (Roll Tide!).
On Thursday night, Boise State (#14) beat Oregon (#16) 19-8. The big story from the game occurred afterwards -- Oregon's star running back, LeGarrette Blount, blindside punched Byron Hout after Hout taunted him.
Oregon's response was to suspend Blount for the entire season, which ends his collegiate career. As expressed by Kornheiser and Bob Ryan on PTI yesterday, I think many people are surprised that Oregon imposed such a strict punishment. It definitely sends a very strong signal to other players (nationwide) as the season gets underway.
